The Maruti Suzuki India Limited has many affordable fuel efficient hatchbacks in the Indian automobile market. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio launched in 2014 is the first Maruti vehicle fitted with AMT (Auto Manual Transmission). The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is one of the stylish hatchbacks in the market. The sporty body has features like wraparound head lights, a wide grille with 2 horizontal Chrome slats, a wide air dam on the body coloured bumper flanked by fog lamps and a ribbed roof. The ZXi and ZDi variants have internally adjustable body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators and body coloured door handles.
The cabin of the Celerio is spacious because of the large wheel base of 2425 mm. The standard cabin features include fabric seats, a manual AC, child lock facilities, partially folding rear seat and an engine immobiliser. The ZXi and ZDi variants have one airbag, central locking facility, tilt adjustment for the steering, power windows, a rear wiper and defogger and a 1 Din music system with Bluetooth for telephony. The peppy engines of the Celerio give segmental best mileages. The 998 cc, 67 bhp and 90 NM torque petrol engine gives mileages of 23.1 kmpl. The diesel variants give mileages of 27.62 kmpl with the 793 cc, 46 bhp and 125 NM torque engines. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 13.3 seconds and the top speed is 140 kmph.
The dimensions of the Celerio are 3600 mm length, 1600 mm width, 1560 mm height, 2425 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance with a boot of 235 litres. The suspensions are McPherson struts at the front and the 3-link axle at the rear. The wheels are 13” size for the base variants and 14” for the top.
The segmental best mileages, affordable prices, large cabins and the availability of the AMT variants make the Celerio competitive. The competition comes from cars like the Ford Figo, the Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai i10.
