1) The time for reconciliation between North and South Korea has come.

The Inter-Korean Summit Meeting in 2000 was the beginning for the reconciliation process. Now is the time for the Korean people all over the world, including the people in North and South Korea, to play major roles in the process of reconciliation. For this to come true, conversations with North Koreans who are living in the closed society is necessary. However, channels of conversation with North Koreans remains restricted. We would like to open up a channel.

2) Human rights are supported in the 21st century.

Free flow of information is one of the basic rights of human beings. Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, ¡°Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers¡±.

3)Information in North and South Korea needs to be completely open to the public.

South Korean society is free and open. Compared to the past, a wider range of information on North Korea has been made public. However, I hope for more improvements in this area in South Korea. North Korean society is so closed that it cannot even compare to South Korean society. Therefore, more efforts must be made in North Korea. North Korea needs to allow external broadcasting including radio and TV. Furthermore, the Internet needs to be made public. North Korea cannot be treated as a normal country in the international community as long as external information is kept restricted.

4) ORNK does not seek to slander North Korea or intend to be anti-regime.

We are not biased with our objectives. We do not intend solely to slander or to praise North Korea. We broadcast any message whether it supports or criticizes North Korea as long as the truth is not distorted. Intellectual property rights needs to be protected and minimum-broadcasting ethics should be upheld.

5) ORNK welcomes the participation of North Koreans.

We consider it the most important mission to deliver the voice of North Koreans to North Koreans. I think that our role is completed when North Koreans become the owners of this broadcasting.

6) ORNK is another way of helping the North Korean people.

The aid provided first to North Korea was food for the body, but now is the time to provide food for their minds. The content can be both political and apolitical. It can be religious or secular. We need to show the North Korean brethren that various opinions exist and everyone can express their opinions without fear of punishment in a free society. It is the way to achieve peace and unification.
